MeetingSource.com grew out of a set of bi-annual meeting source books that were started by John Horchner and published by Travmar Destination Directories, Inc. and produced mainly for the New England (est 1990), Mid-Atlantic (est 1993) and Southeast (est 1996) regions until 2007.
Using that content as a starting point, MeetingSource.com was introduced as the internet’s first meeting site selection directory in 1996.
Since then, it has helped 100,000+ event planners with site selection by profiling over five hundred destinations and nearly 10,000 meeting facilities.
In 2008, Horchner began gathering data for a survey that created the first search engine for convention cities – to make it easy for convention planners to select locations according to the site selection factors most important to them. In 2017, this information was used for the first “Best Convention Cities” report – now an official ranking on MeetingSource.com, cited nationwide.
(Customized convention site selection starter reports are available for free.)
In 2016, operations were moved to Minneapolis.
In addition to its traditional coverage of convention cities and centers, a decision was made during the redesign of the website, to remove ALL meeting facility listings. In its place, invitations were sent to meeting sourcing professionals to fill in the blanks with their comments. Currently, we are exploring new technology that could support meeting planners, convention bureaus and hoteliers with vital sourcing information via a non-profit source. We are also supporting the concept of “real time” meeting sourcing. Please feel free to reach out to John Horchner at (612) 568-6883 X1 or anyone else via the contact us form. Our offices are in the Grain Exchange Building, at Fueled Collective, a destination for growing businesses.
