MeetingSource.com grew out of a set of regional meeting source books started by John Horchner and published by Travmar Destination Directories, Inc. for the New England, Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions.
Using that content as a springboard, MeetingSource.com introduced the nation’s first meeting site selection directory on the internet in 1996. Since then, it has helped 100,000+ event planners with site selection by profiling over five hundred destinations and nearly 10,000 meeting facilities.
In 2008, MeetingSource.com created the first search engine for convention cities – to make it easy for convention planners to highlight and select places by the site selection factors most important to them. (Customized convention site selection starter reports are available for free.)
In 2016, operations were moved to Minneapolis.
In addition to its traditional coverage of convention cities and centers, a decision was made during the redesign of the website, to remove ALL meeting facility listings. In its place, invitations were sent to meeting sourcing professionals to fill in the blanks with their comments. Currently, we are exploring new technology that could support meeting planners, convention bureaus and hoteliers with vital sourcing information via a non-profit source.
